King Paul and his wife, Norma ruled the planet Earth until Norma left him, and using Divine Power, was able to gain control of half the planet.  She called her half Chalaconda, while King Paul continued to rule what was called by everyone “The Grid”.  Conditions on the Grid became so severe, what with bombs, attacks, hurricanes, floods, fires, pollution and crime that Paul was forced to move to a palace deep underground, carved out of solid rock. Now he has built a spaceship big enough for hundreds to move to a plastic pod on Mars.  Every year thousands cross over from The Grid to live in Chalaconda.  Crossing a threshold, they weep and pray.  Norma, meanwhile, has a way to spin pure gold into a cloth that generates electricity that can be stored indefinitely.  However, only Divinely Appointed Weavers can spin the cloth of gold and bring it into the sunlight to activate the power.  King Paul tried to steal this process but the cloth he created had no power and was worthless, so he threw it away on a pile of trash, as they do everything on The Grid.
